Owning a dog can be a life-changing decision. The companionship can become invaluable over time; it’s not uncommon for owners to consider their pooches to be part of their family. But, there are hundreds of breeds. Each one has inherent characteristics that might either complement your lifestyle or be a constant irritation. Selecting the right one plays a key role in laying the groundwork for a healthy dog-and-owner relationship.

With over 400 breeds of dog available today, it may be a bit mind boggling to know that all domestic dogs come from the same family. DNA analysis has proven that Canis familiaris is where all dog breeds began, making them descendants of Canis lupus, which is the wolf. The wolf was interbred to make new breeds. Therefore, each group of breeds has slightly different dog histories. Ancient breeders chose the best male and female dogs to breed and produce puppies that had the best traits of both parents, much like the breeders of today.

Many people tend to choose a dog solely on the way it looks or on the way it is perceived by the public. But there’s more to the physical appearance of a dog. You should also consider other important factors such as breed, age and sex. Bear in mind that dog breeds and their behaviour vary. Some dogs might be a little more aggressive than the others. There are also dogs that need more training and require more attention.

Choosing the right dog for your family is a bigger decision than you may initially think. There are about 320 pure breeds and almost another 80 that were developed by breeders by mixing different combinations of pure breeds.

Some breeds were mixed in ways that kept the characteristics, yet caused the dogs to be larger or smaller than the original breed. With so many choices, you have to think of each dog breed as having specific characteristics, temperament, size, function and abilities.

Dogs love to eat, and because they so obviously enjoy their food, it’s fun to feed them. While most dogs don’t get after dinner desserts, they can gain weight by eating table scraps. Although they love the human food we give them, it isn’t always good for them. Dogs need food that is nutritionally balanced for them. Overweight dogs are prone to arthritis, circulatory problems, pancreatic disorders, liver disease and more.

Food plays a very important role in treating an overweight dog. Along with exercise, a low-fat and low-calorie food is essential in helping your dog lose weight and stay fit. Fiber is also a key ingredient since it helps your dog eat less while keeping her full. Once your dog has been overweight, she may be prone to weight gain and should have an ongoing weight-management plan based on good nutrition, exercise and regular check-ups and weigh-ins. For an accurate diagnosis and treatment options, always consult your veterinarian.

How much your dog eats depends on a number of factors, including age, bone structure, and energy level, as well as the quality of the food you give him.

There are several advantages to feeding a balanced commercial weight reduction diet. First, weight reduction diets are generally high-fiber, low-fat diets which have a low energy density and allow a greater loss of body fat than simply feeding smaller amounts of a high-fat diet. This is because fat contains over twice as many calories as protein and carbohydrates and low-calorie dense foods tend to produce satiety (a feeling of being full) at a lower level of calorie intake. In addition, more energy is used in digesting and absorbing low-fat, high-fiber diets. Finally, by reducing the amount of the food currently being fed, you are also decreasing the level of protein, vitamins, minerals, etc., the dog is receiving.

If your Vet wants to change your dog’s diet, there are a number of companies that make low-calorie weight loss formula dog foods, including Purina, Pedigree and Eukanuba. Canidae Brand is made with glucosamine and chondroitin for better joint health and psyllium to aid in digestion. These brands and others have developed formulas that provide balanced nutrition for safe, effective weight loss.

dog health focuses on taking care of your dog’s needs by using the best natural products you can find. Your dog has special needs; and you must to ensure that these needs are met on a regular basis if you want to see your dog live a long and healthy life.

You need to feed your dog regularly! Provide him with adequate fresh water every day and enough healthy food for his breed type. Investigate the amount and type of food required for your dog.

Here are a few necessary items you must have for your dog:

• Food for your dog. If you are getting a puppy, make sure the food you have is appropriate for puppies. Talk to the pet store or veterinarian about the most appropriate food for your dog.
• Two dog bowls one for water and one for food. Make sure you clean these regularly.
• A dog needs plenty of exercise, and generally the bigger the dog, the more exercise it will need.
• Your dog needs warm shelter to keep out of the weather so unless you are going to have an inside dog, you need to provide your dog with a place to sleep at night, such as a dog kennel.
• A brush and other grooming implements, especially if you have a long haired dog. Long haired dogs need extra care to keep their coats looking healthy and neat. You may need to purchase different types of combs, for untangling knots and getting at the dog’s undercoat. Make sure you know what type of grooming tools your need for your breed of dog.

If you want your dog to have the benefit of providing you with the companionship and entertainment that you need, then you really should make that effort to take care of his needs.

The Kennel cough is known to be very contagious and is considered to be a mixture of various mycoplasma, viruses and bacteria. Its medical term is infectious tracheobronchitis . It is highly possible that the new pet is suffering from the kennel cough.

The symptoms of kennel cough shall be bouts of severe persistent coughing which can end up in vomiting. You might feel that these coughing spasms are too much for your dog to bear, but the fact is that the dog is not affected much by the kennel cough. It shall seem to have enough energy and might look alert and cheerful even after an intense coughing attack.

The most common sign of the dog having kennel cough is when it coughs in a dry manner and a rough rumbling sounding cough which seems to come from the windpipe. Your dog might choke or retch in order to clear its air pipes.

There a few things you can do to aid your dog while it is suffering. Just as we visit a doctor when unwell, you need to take the dog to the veterinarian whenever it begins to cough constantly. The veterinarian shall examine the dog, check out the extent and seriousness of the symptoms and give you guidance and solutions to assist your dog out.

You can make use of preventive measures so that your dog does not fall prey to Kennel Cough. Whenever, the dog needs to be kept in a kennel for sometime, it is recommended to give intranasal vaccines which are more effective and provide better immunity than the vaccines given through injections.

In order to decide whether your dog has symptoms of an illness, you’ll need to observe his behavior on a regular basis. You should pay attention to all his little weird habits and quirks every day. Does your dog have a tendency to chase his tail when it’s time to go out for a walk? Or does your dog chase his tail in the hopes of biting it? If it’s the second option, then your dog could have a bacterial infection. The head and neck area of your pet are very important areas to help diagnose some common diseases.

A dog may also show symptoms of illness or injury through a change in their behavior. For example, your dog could ignore your commands, withdraw from the family or other dogs, refuse to move, whine a lot, refuse to eat, refuse to urinate or defecate or remain really quiet.

Being able to recognize common dog symptoms of illness can help save your dog in an emergency situation by providing effective first aid. Your efforts could buy you some precious time while you take your dog to a medical treatment center.

Even if a dog is not able to inform you whether he is sick or not, any evident change of the normal pattern of behavior is to be regarded as a genuine signal that something is quite wrong. Every change can indicate a sort of underlying health problem that must be reported to the vet.

Your dog’s diet also plays a role in your pet’s oral health. Do you typically feed your dog canned or dry dog food? What kind of treats and toys do you provide for your pet? All of these things can affect the likelihood of trouble with your pet’s teeth.

When your dog’s diet is nutritionally sound, containing essential vitamins, nutrients, and enzymes, your pet’s oral health will be at its very best. Feeding dry dog food rather than a moist canned variety is best for your dog.

Your dog’s diet must be healthy to ensure excellent oral health. Dry dog food is best whenever possible. Don’t forget to select treats for your pet that will enhance your dog’s diet. Consciously monitoring your dog’s diet will positively influence your best friend’s oral health.

Dogs have different nutritional requirement such as they need more protein but not as much carbohydrates, as dogs do not need carbohydrates to live but they need some as they are not true carnivores. Dog food is created to have the proper amounts of vegetables, cereals and protein to keep your dog healthy. As our dog ages then the contents of the dog food will vary.

Dog food is an important part of maintaining your dog’s health and choosing the right food can be tricky. As your dog ages, its dietary needs will change and you will have to adjust the types of food you are using or even add supplements.
